Ephemera vulgata
The 2019 hero of the Nature Concerthall is the mayfly (Ephemera vulgata). The common mayfly is an aquatic insect the larvae of which only live in clean water, which is why this year’s Nature Concerthall concert locations were chosen near rivers. This mayfly invites us to experience a day with someone for whom our day is an entire lifetime.

If your entire life were just one day, what would you choose to do on that day?
The larvae of the common mayfly (Ephemera vulgata) live only in clean water, primarily in flowing water. The lifespan of a mayfly ranges from a few hours to 10 days, though they typically do not live longer than one day.
The creative team of the Nature Concerthall, while studying this year’s hero, discovered: “One human day is an entire lifetime for a mayfly, yet through this brief span of life, which can be likened to a moment for us, we wish to draw the audience’s attention to the far-reaching consequences of transience and responsibility – the dependence of eternity on a single moment. This year’s hero invites us, as humans, to experience a day with someone for whom it is an entire lifetime.”
